ECI REC Directors Jim Alberts and Burt Byers recently received the Board Leadership certificate from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). They were recognized at NRECA's regional meeting on September 11 for their achievement in front of more than 1,000 electric cooperative officials.
Today's electric utility environment requires electric cooperative directors to possess a wide range of knowledge and skills, including awareness of changes in the electric utility business, new governance abilities, and an understanding of the cooperative principles. “The ECI REC Board is committed to working through the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives and NRECA to help our directors sharpen their knowledge for the benefit of our members,” said Steve Marlow, CEO of ECI REC.
This certificate recognizes individuals who continue their professional development after becoming Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) certified and complete ten credits in advanced, issues-oriented courses. Alberts and Byers had previously completed the CCD training, which requires demonstrated understanding of the basic competencies contained in five core courses:
- Director Duties and Liabilities
- Understanding the Electric Business
- Board Roles and Relationships
- Strategic Planning
- Financial Decision Making
