The 17th Annual Meeting of the Members of East-Central Iowa REC was held on June 21. This year’s meeting was well attended by an estimated 163 members plus guests.
Don Shonka (District 21), Lloyd Bathen (District 24), and Ryan Kress (District 27) were re-elected to serve three-year terms.
Following the meeting, representatives of the Benton County Pork Producers grilled pork-burgers and Dostal Catering Services provided side dishes and beverages. Joseph Weber of Brandon also served ice cream.
After the meal, a Board reorganization meeting was held and the following officers were re-elected: Steve Rau, President; Allen Albers, Vice President; Jim Alberts, Secretary/Treasurer; and Don Shonka, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer.
Members attending the Annual Meeting received an East-Central Iowa REC 75th commemorative Chef Tongs barbeque setupon registering. Door prizes included several gift cards.
2011 Youth Tour Winner, Dustin Toale from the Independence area, presented at this year’s Annual Meeting of Members.Each year East-Central Iowa REC awards two free trips to high school juniors for a six-day tour of Washington D.C., along with 1,500 students from across the United States, sponsored by IAEC. Logan Halverson, also from the Independence area, was the other 2011 Youth Tour winner, but was not able to attend. Dustin shared with the attending members some of his experiences while in Washington, D.C., noting one his favorite experiences was their morning jog with Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley. Dustin expressed appreciation for the opportunity to be a part of the Youth Tour. Dustin also thanked the ECI REC membership for the $500 scholarship he was awarded this past May.
Russ Steven of CIPCO presented ECI REC with two Energy Efficiency Awards in recognition of exceptional achievement in the EE Incentive programs for:
- 2011 Agriculture Energy Efficiency Incentives
- 2011 Water Heater Energy Efficiency Incentives
