Youth Tour: A Trip of a Lifetime
Since 1958, Iowa’s electric cooperatives have sponsored high school students on an unforgettable, all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. Each year, ECI REC selects two outstanding sophomores or juniors to represent our cooperative on this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Approximately 40 students from electric cooperatives across Iowa are chosen annually. Together, they join more than 1,800 students from co-ops nationwide for a week of leadership development, education, and exploration in our nation’s capital.
During Youth Tour, students:
- Visit iconic historical landmarks and memorials
- Meet with members of Congress
- Spend a day on Capitol Hill
- Cruise the Potomac River
- Gain a deeper understanding of American history and government
Highlights of the Trip Include:
